USA Powerball Lottery Hits $100 Million Mark Again – July 18th, 2012July 19, 2012 16 Comments
The USA Powerball lotto jackpot has hit the $100 million mark again just in time for tonight’s (July 18th) draw.
There have been six rollovers since the top prize was claimed, which was on June 23rd when one lucky ticketholder scooped up an enormous $60 million prize.
It seems the USA Powerball is never out of the news these days thanks to some major changes to the game, which were implemented on January 15th of this year.
One of the goals of this review of how the lotto works was to provide more jackpots over $100 million – which the game looks to be achieving.
In exchange for a slightly higher lottery ticket price, fans now get the chance to play the new-look USA Powerball with better odds and bigger prizes, with top prizes starting at $40 million and increasing by a further $10 million guaranteed with every rollover.
Furthermore, the game is making more millionaires, as the second-tier prize has been boosted from $250,000 to $1 million – with fans getting the chance to turn this generous windfall into $2 million if they opt for the Power Play feature when they buy their USA Powerball lottery tickets.
The number range has also changed – improving odds – with the Powerball matrix shrinking from 1-39 to 1-35, while the main number range is the same at 1-59.
Since these changes were made, there have been some notable wins, with the largest of these being the $336.4 million prize pocketed by 81-year-old Rhode Islander Louise White, who received her windfall in March after keeping the lottery world waiting a month before coming forward.
The second-largest USA Powerball windfall to be claimed in 2012 was a $241 million prize, which was shared between 20 factory workers from Iowa in June.
Finally, a pool of 48 transit workers shared a $172.7 million USA Powerball top prize in April.
So what it next for the USA Powerball lottery? Because with a year of such enormous wins, surely the sky is the limit for this revamped draw?
